HeadCanon:Road Map

Here is a rough road map for the development of Project HeadCanon.

Setup and Maintenance

 

• Create the server
• Install MediaWiki

Progress Report 1

• Download XML dump of Wookieepedia
• Import the XML dump of Wookieepedia
• Download all files from Wookieepedia

Progress Report 2

• Upload all files here
• Delete unused files

Progress Report 3

• Delete all pages in the Talk namespaces
• Delete all pages in the User namespace
• Delete all pages in the Wookieepedia namespace
• Delete all pages that used to be in other namespaces before the import

Progress Report 4

• Delete unused pages in the MediaWiki namespace
• Edit pages in the MediaWiki namespace to reference Project HeadCanon instead of Wookieepedia
• Fix MediaWiki:Infoboxes.css and MediaWiki:InfoboxColors.css loading in MediaWiki:Common.css (Note: find a way to load CSS from articles directly!)
• Install the Cosmos skin
• Add MediaWiki:Monobook.css temporarily

Progress Report 5

• Delete all pages in Category:Real-world articles
• Delete all "Behind the scenes" sections
• Delete all "External links" sections

Progress Report 6

• Delete all pages in Category:Non-canon articles and Category:Non-canon Legends articles
• Delete all "Non-canon ____" sections
• Delete all appearance and source listings that use Template:Nc, Template:Ncm, and Template:Ncs
• Delete all text marked by Template:Noncanonstart and Template:Noncanonend
• Delete all text marked by Template:Cutstart and Template:Cutend
• Delete all instances of Template:Interlang

• Delete all redirect pages in Special:UnusedRedirects
• Install PyWikiBot
• Fix or delete all redirects in Special:BrokenRedirects
• Fix and delete all remaining redirects in Special:ListRedirects
• Install the Disambiguator extension

Progress Report 8

• Delete all articles in Category:Canon articles
• Remove /Legends from all page titles
• Remove /Legends from all links
• Fix all unneeded pipelinks

• Fix Template:Top so that era icons actually appear
• In Template:Top, remove Canon/Legends tabs
• In Template:Top, remove the inf, real, fa, ffa, ga, fga, ca, fca, and protection parameters
• Remove all bad parameters that are called by pages when invoking Template:Top
• Re-define publishing eras: btr, old, gpr, tcw, imp, reb, new, njo, leg
  • Replace instances of Top template era parameters in all articles (NOTE: this is an ongoing process!)

• Create HeadCanon:Canon
• Create HeadCanon:Chopping Block
• Create HeadCanon:Cut Content
• Cut Full of Surprises

Progress Report 11

• Re-upload files that don't match their Wookieepedia equivalents
• Delete all files in Category:Images made obsolete by an SVG version
• Delete out-of-universe references in Category:Disambiguation pages
• Create a temporary logo and favicon for the site
• Create MediaWiki:Monobook.js

• Find a way to reduce page load times when using the Cosmos skin
• Upload background images for the Cosmos skin and header
• Add MediaWiki:Cosmos.css and MediaWiki:Cosmos.js
• Add era categories with {{Top}}
• Change MediaWiki:Cosmos-navigation to change top bar

• Migrate the wiki to an online host
• Configure the wiki to use a shortened URL
• Add the Popups extension
• Set up daily XML backups of the wiki
